"To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams."

An Open letter by
I write to say that I am pleased with the organization and unity being presented so far in this project creation. It is an art form in itself, and requires a combination of patience and action.
I work with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and curate exhibitions, as well as review proposals from artists all the time. These are my professional suggestions as how to proceed:
1. A request for Deviant art to provide sponsorship and perhaps promotional underwriting seems like a good beginning. We currently support each other online already.
(If any of you have concerns about the way sponsorship might affect an exhibition, I understand your thoughts. write me personally and we may discuss it as a side conversation).
For the record, I enjoy partnering with sponsors.
2. The artists included should be presenting strong work. It would be necessary that the artwork be of the highest quality, regardless of the age, stylistic approach, medium or experience level of the artist.
3. For our written proposal, the philosophy of the exhibition should be kept as simple as possible. (For the benefit of making allies)
I understand that we seem to share a desire to make a stand against certain things in the world.
However, it is preferable to state what we collectively stand FOR.
Some of you are keen, brilliant writers, who are capable of great breadth, and it will be your challenge to articulate these ideas in a simple, bold way.
Again, this is for the benefit of those who will fund us, and those who will want to exhibit us.
Keep it simple.
I know that is hard.
( At the exhibition, large volumes of writing and philosophy can be available to the public, so don't worry. )
When I am reviewing art proposals I look more at the quality of the work,
the UNITY of the work and the simple concept of the show. The ideas behind the images are only of interest to galleries if the work can stand on it's own first.
Even then, Two or three short sentences is all we need for the proposal. If anyone asks for more, they can be given more.
4. Writing the proposal.
A proposal will need to be drafted and created and agreed upon by us. I suggest we would then present it to dA.
We would like for them to initially sponsor us because: they are a big respected presence in the art culture. I imagine that they would like to support us. We are, in their eyes, their best word of mouth advertising. In their eyes, we are "their offspring".
We are proposing that they help secure solid, safe and quality exhibition venues in a number of countries.
We are proposing that they help with the cost of promotion, such as advertising online, in art magazines, newspapers. (easy)
We propose that they cover cost of shipping or a portion of shipping.
(expensive)
5.We artists would be responsible for
framing, and perhaps a portion of shipping.
Artists should be able to demonstrate in their biographies a wide variety of international profiles as well as diversity. We represent a strong collective.
This proposal could be presented to many exhibition venues, of course. We will be prepared to receive many answers and varied responses until a proper match is made.
I know that there is little romance, risk-taking or bravura to these particular steps.
...But these simple, practical steps will lead to success and launch this dream into a reality.
More dramatic and risk-taking exhibition tactics can occur. But let us begin with simplicity.
Please provide me with your questions, comments, and feedback.

John Paul Thornton
